SLT is an advanced type of laser treatment and it is effective in most types of glaucoma, but not all. If the drainage angle is heavily scarred, then SLT would not be appropriate. Case selection is important and your surgeon will advise you of this. Mr Galloway has used SLT in various forms of glaucoma, and finds it very useful in primary open angle glaucoma, normal pressure glaucoma, and in some secondary glaucomas such as pigment dispersion syndrome and pseudoexfoliation syndrome. In patients with narrow angles, SLT is possible, but only if an iridotomy has lead to a substantial opening of the drainage angle (this does occur a minority, often there is only a minimal opening of the drainage angle after a PI, demonstrated with anterior segment OCT). |
